Why have a soup lunch?

This is Longora and her family in Northern Uganda

Having a soup lunch with your friends and family is a great way of raising awareness and of holding a collection for our mission. By eating simply – and perhaps by giving up a meal, or just having a bowl of soup – and by donating to CAFOD, lives can be saved. This benefits people like Longora from Uganda and her family, who used to have no access to drinkable water, but can now lead healthier lives. Thanks to donations from people like you in the past, CAFOD was able to repair the well in her village and train local people in how to maintain it, so they can fix it if it breaks again. Now Longora and her neighbours have a reliable supply of clean, safe drinking water.

At Family Fast Day we seek to make changes like this possible.

If you cannot make it on Friday, but still are interested and want to participate in a Harvest Family Fast Day soup lunch, don’t worry, it’s not too late! You can organise a soup lunch in your parish or with your friends after Fast Day as well!

Garden Party for CAFOD

On Saturday June 18th our fellow CAFOD volunteers Freda and John Vine from St Stephen’s Church in Bexley held their annual Garden Party in order to raise funds for the CAFOD Ethiopia Food Crisis Appeal.

The weather held up nicely which added to the lovely site of the decorated garden complete with tables, chairs and parasols for all the guests in attendance.

In attendance were about 50 parishioners along with their family and friends and their parish priest, Father Jim Spencer. They indulged in a wide variety of sandwiches, cakes and tea or coffee and all seemed suitably impressed.

Overall the event was a huge success as they raised £563.65 through donations from people who could not attend the garden party, a raffle that was circulated through the church and a plant sale they had prior to the event. They even received a gift aid of £162 which in total would mean £725.65 for our brothers and sisters in Ethiopia. .

A huge thank you to Freda and John of the St Stephen’s Church for their constant support and hard work. We truly value all of your contributions and we hope that our other volunteers will be inspired by your work.
