Hello CAFOD community, my name is Elmina and I am a new media volunteer with CAFOD. I am a sixth former studying Geography, French and English Literature. I am passionate about a range of topics from social justice to climate change. When I am not studying, I am attending online events, doing photography (pictured below) , reading or watching Youtube.
I was introduced to CAFOD early in primary school and through my church. As I am getting older, I am becoming increasingly interested in humanitarian aid, so I’ve decided to get involved in a scheme that helps others. I checked the CAFOD website and signed up. From volunteering, I intend to learn more about international development which will be beneficial information for what I intend to study at university. Secondly, I hope to help others in any way possible and make a positive difference in line with the CAFOD objective of ‘helping people living in poverty regardless of their religion or culture’. I am encouraged by the title of Greta Thunberg’s book, No One Is Too Small To Make a Difference. In addition, I intend to learn new transferable skills.
Hopefully, I will soon be able to interact in person with people in the CAFOD Southwark Diocese when it is safe to do so. In the future, I would like to help out more perhaps by taking part in a CAFOD gap year. I would love to eventually work in international development and have the opportunity to work with communities overseas. I am so excited about setting off on this journey!
