CAFOD volunteers Eve and Dave have a daughter Elisa. She just turned one! This year for her birthday they are asking for an alternative sort of present. When we think of presents we immediately think of material goods wrapped in colorful paper with big bows. However, Dave and Eve think that their little one has enough clothes and material presents that she needs. They want her first birthday to make a global impact.
Global birthday presents
Socially aware parents Dave and Eve want something great for their daughter. They are asking for an alternative type of present this year. They want their daughter’s birthday to make a global impact this year. When Elisa turns one, the people of Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi will be able to celebrate with her. Instead of buying Elisa toys or clothes for her first birthday, Dave and Eve want their friends and family to bring a cash donation for the CAFOD cyclone appeal to her party. They are setting up a box for donations for those hit by the cyclone. This alternative birthday present will keep on giving. They are asking for a cash donation or a direct donation to CAFOD on their website. It is not that Dave and Eve do not want their little one to have presents but the presence of their friends and family is the best physical present they can give Elisa.
Bringing your birthday to the world
You too can share your birthday with people around the world. Sometimes when people ask us what we want for our birthday we are at a loss for what to tell them. Instead of searching the internet for something new and trendy that we will not want in two months, we can ask our friends and family to donate the money they would have spent on us to a social concern. Have a bigger impact for your next birthday and check out CAFOD’s World Gifts for an alternative birthday present- one that keeps on giving.
