World Youth Day 2013

Soon, a group of young people from dioceses across England and Wales will be travelling to Brazil for World Youth Day.   They start their pilgrimage in São Paulo to visit our sisters and brothers in Divinéia and Mauá and then travel on to Rio, where they will join in celebrations with thousands of other young people from around the world.  The World Youth Day events culminate with an open-air Mass on an airfield near Rio, celebrated by Pope Francis on the morning of Sunday 28 July.

Marianne, from Greenwich, is also going from the Southwark Diocese – please pray for her as she goes on her journey.

If you want to celebrate World Youth Day at home, check out Brightlights 2013, which will take place over the World Youth Day weekend in the beautiful grounds of Aylesford Priory – ‘with large screen link-up with World Youth Day in Rio, live bands, catechesis, guest speakers and more, this carnival atmosphere will be the next best thing to being in Rio this summer!’

  1. Brightlights/WorldYouthDay@home looks like a fantastic event – and some amazing CAFOD partners from a rap group in Colombia will be appearing at it. Cesar is famous for his guitars made from AK47s – one of which is now owned by Bono!
