Bliss – the Merton Deanery Youth Mission – is made up of 3 events, beginning on Saturday 11th May…
Engage: An action packed day event of music, activities and fun
Enrich: Fr Stan Fortuna from the US will lead a lively evening of witness, rap, music & prayer
Ignite: A celebratory Youth Mass as St Teresa’s Morden
With the intention to create an exciting environment for young Catholics in the Merton Deanery to explore their faith, the 8 parishes there have come together to put on a Deanery Mission in May.
One of the key parts of the Mission is the Youth Events, which are happening over the week of Saturday 11th May to Saturday 18th May 2013. With a core team of members from each of the parishes, as well as the chaplaincy teams from both of the Deanery’s Catholic Secondary Schools – Ursuline High and Wimbledon College – the Mission has the ability to engage with over 2,000 young people across South West London.
Engage will launch on Saturday May 11th, at Sacred Heart Parish in Wimbledon from 9.30am until 5pm. 250 young people from 11-16 years of age from all across the South West of London will come together for a day of fun, music, prayer and workshops (with the likes of Drama (with RISE Theatre), Filmmaking, CAFOD, Sign Language, Dance and Art just a few of the options on offer.) The young people’s faith will be explored in the shadow of a culture of constant change, and they will be challenged to express God’s Gospel message in the midst of this. On this day John Pridmore, former East End gangster turned evangelist, will also be speaking to the young people, and leading them in looking deeper at what their faith might mean to them.
The next event will take place over two days; Thursday 16th and Friday 17th May. Enrich will feature school assemblies with Fr Stan Fortuna, a New York priest who is also a famous Rapper, with an unorthodox and exciting brand of evangelisation. On Friday night, 17th May, Fr Stan will also be fronting a concert for the young people from the Deanery, once again in Sacred Heart Parish in Wimbledon, from 7pm till 9pm.
The final event will take place on Saturday 18th May 2013 at St. Teresa’s Church in Morden. Ignite will see Fr Stan Fortuna celebrate Pentecost Mass with young people from all across the Deanery from 12.30pm – an apt and exciting end to an incredible week.
