Catherine (in the pink jacket) with other young CAFOD Supporters

Catherine Mitchell writes about her experiences during the Pope’s Visit to England:-

“Last weekend I was lucky enough to be part of a group representing CAFOD’s young supporters at the Papal Visit events in London. The events began on the Friday (September 17th) when we spent time at the shiny new eco-friendly CAFOD offices getting to know one another and learning about the ways in which CAFOD works. A Skype call with three of the partners in The Philippines was particularly exciting and a very special experience. At the end of the day we shared a meal and then headed to our accommodation for the night, a very lovely Youth Hostel near Hyde Park.

On Saturday 18th (following a six o’clock start!) we made our way to Westminster Cathedral for morning Mass. As representatives for CAFOD we were able to sit inside the Piazza alongside young representatives from other Dioceses around the country. Watching the service on the big screen was fantastic and the already buzzing atmosphere reached a peak as the Pope, at the end of the service, came outside to bless all the young people in the Piazza.

The evening programme in Hyde Park was just as brilliant, with a huge variety of different acts to keep the crowds entertained until the evening Prayer Vigil. Sitting in Hyde Park on a perfect summer’s evening was truly fantastic as we pondered and prayed together and I most definitely felt part of something very special. So thank you, CAFOD, for giving me the opportunity to be part of something as momentous as this weekend proved to be !”
